Malaysia has a number of accommodation options for international students. With choices ranging from on-campus accommodation to shared houses and studio apartments or condominiums, there’s an option to suit every budget.

 • On Campus (Hostel) type of accommodation
Accommodation usually includes a shared bathroom
Accommodation usually includes a shared or single bedroom furnished with bed, cupboard, desk and chair
Cost: RM2000 – RM3000 (about USD650 – USD950) per semester. The rates for residential accommodations offered to you by your university will vary
 • Bedroom in an apartment or house in Kuala Lumpur or Selangor

This type of accommodation usually has shared bathroom facilities and is generally more expensive if it has its own bathroom

Other things to note:

• Rented premises usually come with a one year contract with upfront deposit and utilities deposit. This varies according to area of premises.

• Hot water is not a standard feature in Malaysian homes. If you require this facility, please check if your rental accommodation is equipped with a water heater.
• Rented premises may not be equipped with a washing machine. However, there are plenty of neighbourhood laundries.
• Most higher education institutions in Malaysia have services to provide information and advice about the different accommodation options and costs, and to help international students find appropriate accommodation to suit their needs. Students should contact their education provider's accommodation service before their arrival to organise this.
